We are delighted to announce that VHIO’s Rodrigo Dienstmann has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of the European Society for Medical Oncology’s (ESMO) newly launched Real World Data and Digital Oncology  (RWD&DO) gold open access journal, published by Elsevier.

“I am truly honored to serve as Editor-in-Chief of this exciting new journal. Joining ESMO’s established portfolio of prestigious publications, Real World Data and Digital Oncology will publish high-quality data science and educational content on the transformation of oncology care with real-world evidence and digital technologies that physicians can trust and understand,” says Rodrigo Dienstmann, Principal Investigator of VHIO’s Oncology Data Science (ODysSey) Group.

Joining ESMO’s other leading publications—its flagship journals Annals of Oncology and ESMO Open—this inspired new journal focuses on real-world data and associated aspects of digital health in oncology and covers a broad range of timely topics including health services research, post-marketing commitments and requirements, comparative effectiveness and drug tolerability in real life, clinico-genomics databases, patient-reported outcomes, decision support systems, computational oncology and human-machine interaction.

“Importantly, Real World Data and Digital Oncology will utilize language that connects with practicing oncologists who are at the nexus of real-world data and clinical informatics, using data information systems to support care delivery. Topic scope and interest will also be of relevance to broader audiences and other stakeholders in oncology including industry, regulators, and policymakers,” adds Rodrigo Dienstmann, who is also Medical Director of the Oncoclínicas Precision Medicine (OCPM) and Big Data Lab in Brazil.

Alongside the journal’s Editorial Board members, also renowned experts in the field, Rodrigo will work closely together with ESMO’s Real World Data and Digital Health Working Group headed by Miriam Koopman (University Medical Center Utrecht, Netherlands), and Suzette Delaloge (Gustave Roussy, France).

This expert ESMO group was created to raise the bar in the execution and reporting of real-world data studies, coordinate Digital Health in Oncology/RWD educational initiatives, and interactions with other ESMO programmes and working groups.
