Clarivate, a global leader in connecting people and organizations to intelligence to transform the world, has revealed its list of Highly Cited Researchers 2023. A Highly Cited Researchers™ is an individual who has demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research over the past decade, based on data and analysis from the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and Web of Science.
Josep Tabernero and Enriqueta Felip – Highly Cited Researchers in Clinical Medicine category
VHIO’s Director Josep Tabernero and Enriqueta Felip, Principal Investigator of our Thoracic Tumors Group and co-Director of our Clinical Research Program, have once again been recognized as Highly Cited Researchers under the category of Clinical Medicine.
Determined by Clarivate’s team at ISI each year, the listing includes selected researchers who have authored multiple Highly Cited Papers which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science over the past decade. Citation activity is not the sole selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined using qualitative analysis and expert judgement.
This year’s Highly Cited Researcher designations have been issued to 6,849 individuals. This small fraction of the researcher population contributes disproportionately to extending the frontiers of knowledge and gaining for society innovations that make the world healthier, more sustainable and more secure.
Joining Josep is VHIO’s Enriqueta Felip who has now been recognized in this same field for a sixth year running.

Josep Tabernero awarded for the eighth consecutive year
For the eighth consecutive year, Josep Tabernero has been selected for significantly advancing cancer research under the category of Clinical Medicine that includes a total of 477 named leaders this year.
“I am truly honored to have been recognized in this year’s listing of Highly Cited Researchers. This accolade is not however about individual efforts or achievements. It is reflective of team science and strong collaboration with hugely dedicated colleagues and peers at the national and global levels,” says Josep Tabernero, Head of the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital’s (HUVH) Medical Oncology Department.
