VHIO is delighted to announce that Charles M. Perou, May Goldman Shaw Distinguished Professor of Molecular Oncology, professor of genetics, and pathology & laboratory medicine, and leader of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center breast cancer research program, comes to VHIO 25th June, 08:00h – 09:00h, to deliver expert take and insights on Breast Cancer Genomics: from the individual to the population, to be chaired by Aleix Prat, Principal Investigator of VHIO´s Translational Genomics Group and past mentee from the Perou lab.
Pushing the boundaries across the disciplines of genetics, biology, bioinformatics, epidemiology and the clinical management and treatment of breast cancer, Perou is an internationally renowned trailblazer in the field of molecular oncology and breast cancer genomics. His seamless translation of breakthrough cancer science for over a decade has measurably advanced our understanding of breast cancer – from cause to characterization towards cure.
By combining discovery, genomics, and bioinformatics, Perou has pioneered studies aimed at unmasking the molecular diversity of breast tumors and the subsequent expanded ´re-tune´ of their classification has enabled physicians not only to understand why certain cancers do not respond to standard therapy, but also to better tailor treatment to disease subtype – thus delivering on the true promise of precision medicine in oncology.
A morning masterclass not-to-be-missed, VHIO invites the Catalonian cancer research community to benefit from the very latest insights and approaches driven by Perou´s lab as well as the road-mapping of future directions for breast cancer subtyping and beyond – with specific emphasis on Basal-like breast cancers:
When? Wednesday 25th June at 08:00h – 09:00h
Where? The Conference Room located on the 10th floor of the General Building of the Vall d´Hebron University Hospital (HUVH).
