Published this week, the Web of Science has revealed it annual listing recognizing leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences from around the world spanning 21 fields covered in Essential Science Indicators. The 2017 listing of Highly Cited Researchers, powered by Clarivate Analytics, contains more than 3300 Highly Cited Researchers from across the globe. It recognizes those researchers who have published a high number of papers that rank in the top 1% most-cited in their respective fields over the last decade and is based on the principle of quantifiable impact as demonstrated by a high citation rate. Their consistent production of highly cited papers reflects the notable contribution and utility of their work as repeatedly judged by their peers.
We are delighted to announce that VHIO´s Director, Josep Tabernero, has for another year running been selected for his exceptional contribution to research under the category of Clinical Medicine which features a listing totaling at 390 of the world´s most renowned trailblazers within the field. This year, Josep Tabernero is in the company of an additional 6 other leading clinical investigators in biomedicine from Spain – four of whom are also leading figures in oncology.
Earning the mark of outstanding impact, Josep’s research has significantly contributed to progressing cancer discovery towards more precise, effective and targeted anti-cancer therapies for an increasing number of patients, and has led to the unmasking of many mechanisms behind tumor development, growth and spread – particularly in gastrointestinal tumors.
On behalf of all at VHIO, we salute and congratulate Josep for this tremendous recognition. We also take this opportunity to applaud the outstanding work of the other four experts in oncology from Spain to feature on the 2017 list under Clinical Medicine: Joan Bladé, Jordi Bruix, Elias Campo, Josep M. Llovet (IDIBAPS – Hospital Clínic, Barcelona, Spain).
In addition, we would like to recognize two other existing Highly Cited Researchers to have come from the Vall d´Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) ‘stable’ of leading physician-scientists: José Baselga, Physician-in-Chief, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC, New York) and President of VHIO´s Internal Scientific Committee, and Antoni Ribas, Professor of Medicine, Surgery & Medical Pharmacology, the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), who was a former Resident at HUVH. Antoni is also named on this year´s listing of the “hottest” 21 authors who have contributed high-impact studies on cancer genomics, cancer treatment, solar cells, and gene editing, among others.
