Held yesterday morning in celebration of Saturday’s World Breast Cancer Day, 19 October, and World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Association Sin Teta Hay Paraiso (STHP), alongside the Joventut Alètica Montacada (JAM) and the City Council of Montcada I Reixac here in Catalonia, organized its 4th annual Run & Walk Pink MiR to fundraise in support of cancer research at VHIO. Surpassing all expectations, not only did this year’s charity 3K walk-runathon attract a record number of participants, it also raised a phenomenal 18,000 EUR.
This most generous donation will fuel research into more effectively and precisely tackling lobular breast cancer, which represents between 10%-15% of all breast cancer cases. More specifically, pioneering research to be directed by Cristina Saura, Principal Investigator of our Breast Cancer Group, will seek to establish the value of prognostic parameter Ki-67 as a biomarker in this patient population. Using the EndoPredict multi-gene test for breast cancer patients, her team will also validate Ki-67 as a potential predictor of benefit from chemotherapy towards more precisely informing treatment decisions for individual patients.
Also participating at Run & Walk Pink MiR were VHIO’s Sergi Cuadrado, Deputy Managing Director, and Meritxell Bellet, Medical Oncologist and Clinical Investigator of Cristina Saura’s Group.
Invited to join center stage to collect the cheque on VHIO’s behalf, he took the opportunity to thank each and every participant for his/her support of essential research against cancer (in Catalan):
