This month’s turn of the decade also marked the end of Josep Tabernero’s two-year term as President of ESMO – the European Society for Medical Oncology. In his final Word from your President he considers just some of the many actions and programs that have launched, developed and grown under his leadership – shoulder to shoulder with ESMO’s Executive Board, Officers and Staff, as well as those who make the Society truly great – its Members.
As part of this last address, his hand-pick of highlights include the adoption of new bylaws and organizational regulations, existing and new educational offerings that are quite literally travelling across the globe, the continued growth and reach of its flagship meetings, ESMO’s dedication to more effectively informing policymaking decisions and priority setting through robust science and the independent reporting of meaningful clinical benefit, and the promotion of optimal cancer care in partnership.
Entitled From strength to strength for better patient care, he concludes by elegantly handing over the reins to his successor as ESMO President, Solange Peters, MD, PhD, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois (CHUV) Oncology Department, Lausanne, Switzerland.
