VHIO’s Prostate Cancer Transaltional Research Group seeks a Laboratory Research Technician
Reference: 1/2020
Application deadline: 28/02/2020
Number of vacancies: 1
General description of the site:
A Research Technician position is available from February 2020 at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology’s Prostate Cancer Translational Research Group (PI: Joaquin Mateo, and the position will be supervised by Nicolas Herranz) Our group focuses on studying and testing hypothesis-based targeted therapy in prostate cancer and we are especially committed to applying the potential clinical value of our findings to clinical trials.
Currently, ongoing projects in our lab focus on: 1) exploiting senescence phenotypes induced by cancer therapy to identify novel combination treatments for metastatic prostate cancer and, 2) advancing insights into how DNA damage repair defects impact on prostate cancer evolution and can be exploited therapeutically.
Job description:
We seek an organized, motivated and team-oriented individual with previous experience working in a translational research laboratory either in the academic or private sector. The candidate should have previous experience in working with cell lines and mouse models — ideally in the cancer field.
The successful candidate will form an integral part of the scientific team and support the execution of the group’s translational research program. His/her responsibilities will include cell culture work, phenotypic characterisation of cellular models (immunostainings, western blots, functional assays, etc.) and experiments with prostate cancer murine models.
Project title: Molecular profiles of prostate cancer associated with DNA repair defects for the development of personalized medicine strategies. PI18/01384, Funder: ISCIII and possible co-financing of ERDF funds.
Requirements:
- Experience with cell culture and drug sensitivity assays.
- Experience with murine cancer models (especially generation of tumour xenografts and administration of drugs via different routes).
- To be fully accredited to conduct experiments with animal models.
- Exceptional attention to detail, scientific rigor, and strong organisation, troubleshooting and multitasking skills.
Additional experience:
- Generation and maintenance of 3D cultures (organoids/spheroids), ideally from prostate specimens.
- Immunostaining assays in human and/or murine tumour samples.
- Experience with in-vitro drug screens.
- Experience with DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR and Western Blot.
The candidate is expected to be able to communicate well in English, even if it is not his/her first language.
Application:
Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae and letter of intent via email: selecciorrhh@vhio.net, including the reference number 01/2020. Please also attach a letter of reference, if available.
About VHIO:
Under the leadership of Josep Tabernero, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), has established itself as a comprehensive cancer center of proven excellence internationally. It is also thanks to VHIO’s optimal organizational structure based on a purely multidisciplinary and translational model that VHIO talents continue to anticipate and tackle the many unresolved questions in combatting this multifaceted and heterogeneous disease.
Located within the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus, our researchers closely collaborate and interact with Vall d’Hebron physician-scientists. Translational science and clinical research are therefore tightly connected which promotes superb interaction and teamwork which, in turn, accelerates the bench-bedside-bed cycle of knowledge.
This privileged environment affords VHIO direct access to patients as well as the entire spectrum of oncology professionals who care for them, and a second-to-none appreciation of how cancer science can translate into more powerful, targeted treatments and better practice for the care of patients.
VHIO’s pioneering model and programs, coupled with its belief in combining strengths through cross-border collaborations, continue to spur advances in reversing cancer resistance, halting metastatic spread, and more effectively treating even the most undruggable tumor types.
