News just in, Principal Investigator of our Gynecological Malignancies Group, Ana Oaknin, has once again been recognized for her global expertise in developing and leading multi-center studies and innovative clinical trial design to more effectively and precisely treat gynecological cancers.
Specifically, she been elected by the Executive Board of Directors of the Gynecological Cancer InterGroup (GCIG) to the role of co-Chair of the Group’s Cervix Cancer Committee for the next two-year term and thereafter, spearhead the same expert panel as Chair for a further two years.
The Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup seeks to enhance the global impact of clinical trials in gynecologic cancer by promoting international cooperation, supporting clinical research, performing studies in rare tumors, stimulating evidence-based medicine, and spurring educational activities.
Commenting for VHIO’s Global Communications about this prestigious appointment, Ana said, “I am truly honored to have been elected by GCIG’s Executive Board to serve as co-Chair of its Cervix Cancer Committee. I very much look forward to working alongside its other leading experts to further deliver on the Group’s mission of promoting and facilitating high quality clinical trials aimed at improving outcomes for women suffering from this terrible disease.”
“Only in partnership, driven by international groups including GCIG, will we collectively and successfully pursue the World Health Organization’s mission of eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem. Considering that deaths from this disease are estimated to rise by a further 50% by 2030, all stakeholders in oncology must continue to work harder and move even faster, in concert, to achieve this common purpose,” concluded Ana, who is also Head of the Gynecological Cancer Program, Medical Oncology Department, the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (HUVH – Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus).
