Job description:

The Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) is seeking an organized, motivated, and team-oriented bioinformatician to join to Biomarkers and Clonal Dynamics Group led by Dr. Rodrigo Toledo and to run projects in collaboration with the Early Drug Development Unit (UITM), led by Dr. Elena Garralda.

The group’s main interest is on precision medicine and on the discover and validation of biomarkers of response and mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapy and immunotherapy drugs. For this, we perform longitudinal sequencing of tumor and plasma cell-free DNA (cfDNA) to characterize tumor evolution and clonal dynamics. The group works in close contact with clinical groups of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital but also from different hospitals worldwide.

We are looking for a bioinformatician that will analyze generated multi-Omics data (mostly WES, WGS, and RNAseq) through applying different pipelines. The candidate must have previous experience in Omics data analysis and with the desire to work in a dynamic environment. This position is ideal for candidates who enjoy taking on challenges, learning new things and have good communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Degree in bioinformatics or postgraduate studies in bioinformatics, computational biology or similar (including mathematics and biology).
  • Experience of at least 2 years (preferably in academic environments).
  • Experience processing and analyzing omics data (WES, WGS, RNA-seq, etc.).
  • Fluent in R, Python and Bash (GNU/Linux) scripting. Other programming languages will also be positively valued.
  • Experience in version control programming (e.g. Git) and hosting (e.g. GitHub).
  • Experience in container systems (e.g. Docker or Singularity) is a plus.
  • Experience in Nextflow or similar workflow managers is a plus.
  • Experience with Amazon AWS or similar cloud providers is a plus.
  • Statistical modelling, machine learning and deep-learning knowledge is a plus.

Additional information:

  • The candidate is expected to have good English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Salary conditions according to experience and profile

Potential candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and a letter of intent via email to selecciorrhh@vhio.net, including the reference “Ref. 18-2023” in the subject line of your email.

About VHIO:

Under the leadership of Josep Tabernero, the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), has established itself as a comprehensive cancer center of proven excellence internationally. It is also thanks to VHIO’s optimal organizational structure based on a purely multidisciplinary and translational model that VHIO talents continue to anticipate and tackle the many unresolved questions in combatting this multifaceted and heterogeneous disease.

Located within the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus, our researchers closely collaborate and interact with Vall d’Hebron physician-scientists. Translational science and clinical research are therefore tightly connected which promotes superb interaction and teamwork which, in turn, accelerates the bench-bedside-bed cycle of knowledge. This privileged environment affords VHIO direct access to patients as well as the entire spectrum of oncology professionals who care for them, and a second-to-none appreciation of how cancer science can translate into more powerful, targeted treatments and better practice for the care of patients.

VHIO’s pioneering model and programs, coupled with its belief in combining strengths through cross-border collaborations, continue to spur advances in reversing cancer resistance, halting metastatic spread, and more effectively treating even the most undruggable tumor types.
