The Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the Karolinska Institute (KI) and the Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Center for a knowledge exchange visit centered on precision diagnostics in oncology. The initiative was held under the umbrella of the European Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres (EUnetCCC), an EU-funded Joint Action that promotes collaborative networking to strengthen cancer care and research across Europe.
Throughout an intensive one-day program, VHIO presented its integrated, multidisciplinary approach to precision oncology. Discussions covered molecular oncology and pre-screening workflows, clinical trial strategy, management of clinical data, and the operations of VHIO’s Molecular Tumor Board. The delegation also gained insight into the institute’s innovation and business development efforts, as well as its strategic collaborations with industry partners.
As part of the visit, a guided tour of the VHIO’s Research Unit for Molecular Therapy of Cancer (UITM)-CaixaResearch facilities, further showcasing VHIO’s commitment to translating research into improved patient care.
The exchange proved highly valuable for both institutions, laying the groundwork for future collaborations and reinforcing VHIO’s dedication to EU-funded initiatives that accelerate the clinical application of cancer research. Together, VHIO and KI take a step forward in building a more connected, innovative, and impactful oncology landscape in Europe.
