PRECEPTORSHIP HEREDITARY CANCER 2024

We are in the era of genomics, and increasingly, healthcare professionals must deal with patients' genetic information for medical decision-making. One of the main challenges in today's oncology clinical practice is the performance and interpretation of germline or tumour genetic studies to provide precision treatments. The new genetic sequencing techniques in the field of oncology generate reports with a multitude of genetic variants that are difficult to interpret and with different implications for the medical management of the patient and/or their relatives, with which the professional may not feel familiar. Likewise, the rapidity of the need for results means that new models of genetic counselling need to be designed, adapted to current needs, while preserving the quality of care.

To address these challenges, we have designed this training programme to review the current status of targeted therapies based on tumour and germline genetic status, acquire skills in the interpretation of genetic variants, and discuss models of genetic counselling in oncology.

We hope that the concepts learned in this course will be easy to apply in the clinic to address the comprehensive care of cancer patients and their families in the era of genomics and targeted therapies.
