Officially announced yesterday by ecancer, Prof. Gordon McVie has passed away. His departure represents a huge loss to all stakeholders in oncology. As an internationally renowned leader and authority in cancer research, treatment and patient care, he also tirelessly fought to tackle and resolve inequalities in access to optimal anti-cancer therapies across the globe. In short, he really did make the difference to numerous patients across borders.
“Gordon was a true inspiration to cancer researchers and clinical investigators around the world. His seminal contributions improved the lives of countless cancer patients globally. He was also a true gentleman, scholar, and a man with boundless energy and huge heart. He will be sorely missed by us all,” said VHIO’s Director, Josep Tabernero.
For those who had the privilege of knowing and working with Gordon, he brought boundless drive, energy and spark everywhere he went. Also commenting for VHIO Communications, Elena Garralda, Director of VHIO’s Research Unit for Molecular Therapy of Cancer (UITM) – “la Caixa”, and PI of our Early Clinical Drug Development Group observed, “I have been fortunate to work directly with Gordon over the past four years. His brilliant mind and ability to rethink clinical trial design toward accelerating clinical drug development was truly inspirational. He was also an amazingly kind, witty and compassionate man. Gordon’s passing represents a major loss to the oncology community and beyond.”
