Daniela Silvia Bobos, representing Kaleido Ideas & Logistics, presented the check for 7,000€ to Dr. César Serrano, head of the Sarcoma Translational Research Group.
This is the third year that Kaleido Ideas & Logistics has carried out the ‘Kaleido Against Sarcoma’ initiative, which aims to support sarcoma research at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO).
Daniela, a patient of Dr. Serrano, is very committed to this solidarity initiative and grateful for the research carried out at VHIO.
“It is our pleasure to help so that tomorrow there will be more treatments for patients suffering from this disease. More resources and funding are needed for sarcoma research”, explains Daniela.
SARCMODEL PROJECT
This donation will go to the SarcModel project, which consists of generating cell and animal models of the different types of sarcomas.
Currently, the main problem is the lack of cellular and animal models of sarcomas, the basis for advancing molecular knowledge and generating new therapeutic strategies. Sarcomas are a group of around 70 rare diseases, and for many of them, there are still few or no models.
On the one hand, according to Dr. Serrano, the goal of this project is to provide essential tools to deepen our knowledge of the biology of sarcomas and their molecules.
The SarcModel project is funded exclusively by donations and, over the last three years, has generated more than 15 models of 12 different types of sarcomas.
In addition, as the project progresses, it will be possible to work on testing new drugs that can be used to treat patients with this disease.
Dr. César Serrano details: “We are especially proud to have created a mouse model of PEComa, the only one in the world, and which has opened a specific line of research in our laboratory” and adds:
“We would like to sincerely thank all the patients and relatives who are contributing to this project, because the generation of models is something that cannot be funded with grants, but it is essential to start new ideas and better understand the biology of these rare tumour types”.
