VHIO’s Open Day has become a must-attend event for anyone interested in learning how cancer research is carried out. For the fourth consecutive year, VHIO opens its doors to the public to bring cancer research closer to society. On Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., more than 40 professionals will welcome all those interested in discovering how research is conducted at VHIO, in a morning full of science and activities for all ages.
Would you like to learn how research in prevention is advancing, how data are used in research, or what the journey of a tumour sample looks like at VHIO? Throughout the morning, several roundtable discussions will take place, where experts from the research centre will talk about these topics in an open and accessible way, encouraging dialogue with the audience.
For those who want to discover what a laboratory looks like from the inside, there will be several guided tours, as well as different showlabs – a dynamic format that allows visitors to see techniques such as PCR or the processing and analysis of blood samples to detect cellular alterations.
In addition, we offer workshops on a wide range of topics designed for different age groups. In these sessions, participants will be able to observe samples under the microscope, understand what tumour sequencing involves, and learn how knowledge of mutations can help guide treatments. We will also address topics such as hereditary cancer and its implications, and test participants’ precision using common laboratory tools.
Younger children will also have their own space, with a play area and a storytelling session where, guided by the wizard Merlí and his potions, they can explore the world of science in an age-appropriate way.
Finally, there will be a career guidance space aimed at young people who are at a key moment in their academic or professional decision-making, where they can share questions and concerns with professionals working in oncology research across different fields.
All this and much more on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Cellex Building.
