Barcelona, 16 October 2014. The Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) and the Vall d´Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) have joined forces to launch a series of informative, monthly workshops specially devised and designed to serve the interests of breast cancer patients.
To be inaugurated tomorow, 17 October, course coordinators Vanesa Ortega and Eva Muñoz, both Medical Oncologists at the HUVH and clinical researchers at VHIO, will warmly welcome participants to the very first in this programmed series which will run from October 2014 – June 2015 (please refer to the agenda attached below).
Specifically tailored to addressing and discussing key areas of interest to breast cancer patients, the VHIO-HUVH calendar of workshops 2014-2015 will cover several important aspects ranging from make-up and aesthetics, nutrition and cancer, relaxation techniques, alternative treatments, sexuality and cancer, hereditary breast cancer, management of toxicity of radiotherapy, clinical trials, to surgery and breast reconstruction.
“The main objective behind this joint VHIO-HUVH initiative is to help further equip, support and empower patients throughout their respective cancer journeys – from breast cancer diagnosis to treatment, care and wellbeing”, comments Eva Muñoz.
“These patient-orientated meetings provide excellent opportunity for breast cancer patients to discuss and interact directly with the outstanding panel of speakers, all of whom have been cherry-picked to deliver talks on areas corresponding to their invaluable expertise”, continues Vanesa Ortega, co-coordinator of the workshops.
Taking place from 11:30 – 12:30 tomorrow, at the Auditorium of the Vall d´Hebron University Hospital´s Maternoinfantil building, guest speaker Montse Muñoz, Medical Oncologist from the Oncology Service of the Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, will present the first session on Myths surrounding breast cancer – a timely topic that spurred efforts of World Cancer Day earlier this year, themed ´Debunk the myths´.
