VHIO´s Josep Tabernero awarded the Josep Trueta Medal for his outstanding contribution to advancing healthcare

Officially announced yesterday, the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia has revealed the thirteen recipients of the Josep Trueta Medal in recognition of their respective contributions to advancing healthcare, as well as the seven entities that will be presented with the Josep Trueta Award Plaque.

Among the thoroughly deserving awardees for 2016 is Josep Tabernero, Director of VHIO, Head of the Medical Oncology Department, the Vall d´Hebron University Hospital (HUVH), and President-elect (2016-2017) of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

The Josep Trueta awards, recognizing the tremendous work and illustrious careers of individuals who have significantly contributed to progressing patient treatment and care, were created by the Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia in 1997, marking the 100 year anniversary of the birth of the renowned Catalan scientist Josep Trueta.

The Josep Trueta Medal: Carme Borrell, Claudi Camps, Núria Cuixart, Rafael Guayta, Joan Ramon Laporte, Albert Ledesma, Carme Ollé, Jaume Padrós, Joaquim Ramis, Helena Ris, Rosa Suñol, Josep Tabernero, and Miquel Vilardell.

The Josep Trueta Award Plaque: Associació d’Infermeria Familiar i Comunitària de Catalunya (AIFICC), Creu Roja Catalunya, Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Hospital Universitari Arnau de Vilanova, Hospital Universitari Doctor Josep Trueta. Laboratori de l’Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona, and Pediatria dels Pirineus.

The awards will be presented during a celebratory ceremony this coming Monday, 19 December 2016.
