Themed Strengthening our combined commitment to conquer cancer, VHIO’s Scientific Report 2024 highlights some of the many research contributions and developments that shaped our year.
As documented throughout the pages of the report, our research teams and talents have continued to ramp up our team science and clinical research in oncology thanks to VHIO’s purely multidisciplinary and translational research model. We have also continued to strengthen our scientific infrastructure and lay the groundwork for our future initiatives and partnerships—both nationally and internationally. All with one shared goal in mind: to curtail and one day conquer cancer.
The year in numbers
More than 800 professionals, 36 research groups, 6 cross-disciplinary units, 11 task forces or multidisciplinary working groups, 5 spin-offs… all focused on advancing oncology research to improve the survival and quality of life of people with cancer.
In 2024, VHIO professionals published 527 scientific publications with an average impact factor of 16.45. Nearly 1,600 patients were included in 800 clinical trials, with recruitment open at some point during the year. Fifty percent of these trials are in early stages and were conducted at the UITM-CaixaResearch Molecular Cancer Therapy Research Unit.
