During August, Clàudia Gracia contacted the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) to share her intention to launch a charitable initiative in support of cancer research.
Clàudia Gracia had long sought a way to contribute, either by volunteering or acting. Determined, she decided to raise funds to support scientific research.

After discussing it with her family and friends, she decided to propose to the UpPàdel Cabrera club the organisation of the first charity tournament “Para los guerreros”, as a tribute to all the people who fight this disease every day.

The initiative was enthusiastically received, and the tournament took place on 4 October with significant success: more than 130 players in the men’s, women’s, and mixed categories, all enjoying a festive atmosphere, music, food for everyone, and several surprises.

Thanks to the club and all participants, this first tournament raised €3,056, which will be fully allocated to cancer research at VHIO.
Initiatives like this have a highly significant impact on our centre, as they provide essential resources to advance new oncology research projects, but also help raise public awareness about the importance of research and foster a community around the prevention and treatment of this disease.

Sport, in this sense, becomes a key tool for cohesion and participation, enabling many people to take part in charitable initiatives like this one.

On 13 November, Clàudia visited VHIO’s facilities to hand over the cheque to VHIO’s Deputy Manager, Sergi Cuadrado.
“I never imagined the tournament would be such a success. I’m incredibly moved by everyone’s participation and this amazing amount raised!” she said.

Sergi Cuadrado commented: “We are truly delighted to see initiatives like this emerging and feel your trust in VHIO’s work. We are very grateful for your help and confidence.”

That same day, a guided tour of the Cellex building was organised. On this tour, she learned more about VHIO’s laboratories and research teams.

VHIO wants to express our sincere gratitude to Clàudia, the UpPàdel Cabrera club, and everyone who helped make the first “Para los guerreros” charity tournament possible.

We hope to join forces in future editions!
