On November 5 and 6, during the SEOR 2025 symposium, the General Assembly of the Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology (SEOR) was held, where Dr. Xavier Maldonado—Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and Head of the Radiation Oncology Group at VHIO—was appointed the new Director of the Institute for Research in Radiation Oncology (IRAD).
Dr. Maldonado begins this new stage with the aim of promoting and normalizing research in radiation oncology in Spain.
The model to be developed focuses on building synergies between national and international societies and their research institutes. The goal is to position Spanish radiotherapy at the forefront of innovation and to coordinate projects among researchers from different fields.
IRAD was founded in 2022 by the Spanish Foundation for Radiation Oncology with the mission of fostering the development of research in Radiation Oncology, as well as continuous training and education for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure of all neoplastic diseases—always with an altruistic, non-profit approach.
