On 26 November, the ACSOSA Zona Nord association visited the VHIO facilities to present a cheque with the funds raised from the first “Run Against Cancer” charity race.

This first edition of the race took place on 19 October and raised €8,000 for cancer research at VHIO.

ACSOSA (Solidarity Action for Health – Zona Nord) is a non-profit organization founded in Barcelona’s northern neighborhoods, with the aim of promoting solidarity-based activities to improve community health and support medical research in different fields. Its altruistic work and ability to mobilize the community are a clear example of solidarity’s transformative power.

The association works with residents of Ciutat Meridiana and Torre Baró to implement charitable initiatives it promotes. ACSOSA is also a meeting space for people who wish to get involved and help, building a mutual support network.

The association’s representatives were welcomed in the Cellex building. Here, they learned first-hand about VHIO facilities and research in the field of oncology. VHIO’s Managing Director, Carles Constante, led the guided tour and explained the main advances currently being driven at the institute. He highlighted the importance of translational research, which enables discoveries made in the laboratory to be transferred to patients as quickly and effectively as possible.

During the tour of the laboratories, members of ACSOSA Zona Nord observed the day-to-day work of the research team and saw how civil society support-through initiatives such as this charity race—directly contributes to the development of projects aimed at improving the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of cancer patients.

Carles Constante stated: “This contribution represents a very valuable boost for VHIO and reflects the commitment of the association and of all the race participants to advancing oncology research.”

Following the success of the first edition of the “Run Against Cancer” race, which brought together more than 900 participants, the association reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to support cancer research at VHIO. During the visit, ACSOSA Zona Nord also expressed its appreciation for the collaboration and the detailed explanation of the various research lines promoted by the institute.

Inma Aguilar, a member of the ACSOSA Association, commented: “We have seen first-hand what the laboratories are like and the significant work you do at VHIO. It is impressive, and we are very pleased that this donation will help patients!”

VHIO thanks ACSOSA Zona Nord for its commitment, support, and trust.
