1300x600

Themed Driving progress through disruptive science and clinical innovation in oncology, VHIO’s Scientific Report 2025 highlights some of the many research contributions and important developments that shaped our year.

As documented throughout the pages of the report, our research teams and talents have continued to drive progress against cancer thanks to VHIO’s multidisciplinary and translational research model, and by adapting to the rapidly evolving landscape of oncology. Based on our strategic plan, we have also continued to strengthen and optimize our scientific infrastructure to deliver on our research goals, priorities, and future initiatives. All with one shared goal in mind: to reduce the burden of cancer and make strides against this disease.

The year in numbers

More than 850 professionals, 37 research groups, 6 transversal clinical trials services and units, 12 multidisciplinary task forces and 8 active working groups, 6 institutional programs, 5 spin-offs… all deeply committed to advancing oncology research to improve the survival and quality of life of people with cancer.

In 2025, VHIO researchers and clinical investigators (co) authored 559 scientific publications with a median impact factor of 17.01. More than 1,800 patients are included every year in 1,091 active clinical trials and studies at some time in the year. Fifty percent of these trials are early-phase and conducted at VHIO’s Research Unit for Molecular Therapy of Cancer (UITM) – CaixaResearch.
