Josep Tabernero, VHIO’s Director, took the reins last month as ESMO President to serve the 2018 – 2019 two-year term. In celebration of both the extraordinary achievements of now Past President, Fortunato Ciardiello, as well as the turn of this next exciting ESMO chapter, Josep’s first Letter as President entitled Reflections and next step directions from your new President, has just published online as ESMO’s top story.
Throughout his first letter, Josep so eloquently praises the successes driven by Fortunato during his presidency and, in parallel, roadmaps the next-step directions and priority actions that he will support as ESMO’s newly appointed President. Representing a multi-stakeholder address by touching on specific areas that are of major interest to the entire oncology ecosystem, he not only promises to fortify the three ESMO 2020 pillars – integrated cancer care, specialised education, and sustainable cancer care – but also pledges to further grow and expand the Society in tune with the current era of precision medicine.
Commenting for VHIO Communications Josep said, “I believe in advancing our Society in parallel with the complex and rapidly evolving landscape of oncology. We must continue to forge essential collaborations with other specialties and partners, as well as listen and respond to the needs of those who must always be at the center of everything we do – our patients.”
“Alongside our exceptionally dedicated executive and expert committees, supported by our superb ESMO staff, I will seek to tackle current challenges that are impacting on our ability to more rapidly and precisely advance our specialty along with others. I also believe in turning current obstacles in oncology into opportunity and optimal outcomes for all stakeholders”, he concluded.
