With the start of the new school year, we are launching a new edition of Escola i Ciència, VHIO’s longest-running science outreach programme.
In this 2025/2026 edition, we are expanding the programme compared to last year, welcoming 20 groups of students from different schools and educational levels. These groups will spend a morning at VHIO, visiting our facilities, learning about cancer research from our professionals, and taking part in a range of interactive activities and hands-on workshops.

Formats tailored to every age group
The main goal of the programme is to share VHIO’s scientific research in an enthusiastic and inspiring way — bringing science closer to younger generations, raising awareness, and helping spark scientific curiosity and vocation at any age. To achieve this, the programme offers several formats adapted to each educational stage.
For 6th grade and 1st year of ESO, students take part in an interactive talk with quiz-style questions about cancer biology and oncology research. They then split into smaller groups to carry out age-appropriate practical workshops.
For high school students (Bachillerato), in addition to the facility tour, participants attend specialised talks given by VHIO researchers, who not only explain their scientific projects but also share their personal and professional journeys in research.
Finally, for vocational training students in Clinical Laboratory and Pathological Anatomy, the programme includes sessions led by VHIO professionals with similar backgrounds, who discuss their experiences, daily work, and ongoing projects.
Commitment to the scientists of tomorrow
As a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, VHIO is firmly committed to science outreach and to initiatives that bring research closer to society. Through the Escola i Ciència programme, we aim to share our passion for discovery, inspire new generations, and help nurture the scientific talent of the future.
