31/07/2017 – Research Laboratory Technician in Cancer Genomics – maternity leave cover temporary contract (Process closed)

Deadline for submission of applications: 31/07/2017
Reference: 08/2017
Number of vacancies: 1
Offer description:

Our Cancer Genomics Group and Core Technology Facility is located in VHIO’s CELLEX building, situated just a few meters away from the Vall d’Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus which also incorporates VHIO’s Research Unit for Molecular Therapy of Cancer (UITM) – “la Caixa”, where, in close collaboration with our Cancer Genomics and Molecular Oncology Groups, we lead and conduct early clinical studies with molecular targeted agents.

In 2016, we ran a total of 129 phase I and basket trials, enrolling a total of 452 patients, spanning a broad spectrum of cancer genes and pathways. Our research activities drive the development of novel multiplexed tests that are optimized to FFPE-derived nucleic acids as well as cfDNA. Once developed, they are validated and used in clinical research – VHIO’s Prescreening Program that performs molecular profiling in over 1500 patients per year as candidates for enrollment in our phase I studies.

We have also developed and routinely implemented an Amplicon-seq approach to sequence 67 genes (Illumina), as well as a gene fusion panel (with the capacity of detecting over 100 recurrent gene fusions) and a Copy Number Alteration panel (detecting 59 genes) based on nCounter technology. Our Core Technology Facility is equipped with a MassARRAY (Sequenom), an n-Counter platform (Nanostring), digital droplet PCR (BEAMing and Bio-Rad), and two NextGen sequencers and hardware; MiSeq and a HiSeq 2500 (Illumina).

We seek a laboratory technician for our Prescreening program and related activities as well as provide support to members of our Cancer Genomics Group. Main duties will mainly focus on the use of deep sequencing and nCounter technology, but may also involve others from our suite of cutting edge technologies.

Additional Information:

Established in 2006, the Vall d´Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), Barcelona, Spain, is a leading comprehensive cancer center of excellence where its researchers and physician-scientists adopt a purely translational research model, working together as multidisciplinary teams to both accelerate and advance personalized and targeted therapies against cancer. Undertaking one of Spain’s most dynamic cancer research programs, VHIO is dedicated to delivering on the promise of precision medicine in oncology – turning cancer discovery into more effective, tailored treatments and better practice for the care of our patients.

VHIO Provides: A dynamic, multidisciplinary research environment, optimal laboratory space and access to our cutting-edge core technologies: Cancer Genomics, Molecular Oncology, Translational Genomics, and Proteomics which are not only responsible for the development of VHIO’s core technologies and platforms but also pursue, implement and develop their own independent research lines and projects.

Located in the stunning city that is Barcelona, our exceptional facilities also comprise a state-of-the-art animal facility with a dedicated surface area of 1347 m2 and a capacity of 5471 cages. To discover more about VHIO, it’s Faculty, research programs and activities visit: www.vhio.net.
