Centrem la nostra recerca en els mecanismes de resistència a les teràpies dirigides i, el que és més important, en com superar aquesta resistència, demostrant que els càncers de mama resistents a T-DM1, un conjugat d’anticòs i fàrmac (ADC), poden ser tractats eficaçment amb l’ADC de segona generació SYD985 (Nadal-Serrano et al.).

El nostre grup també ha contribuït a determinar el valor clínic de l’ADN lliure de cèl·lules plasmàtiques i l’eficàcia de la inhibició de PI3K a tumors gastrointestinals (Serrano et al.; García-Valverde et al.). Finalment, hem col·laborat en un article de posició sobre com millorar l’accés mundial als medicaments contra el càncer (Cortes et al.)

A més, la nostra plataforma en constant expansió de models experimentals derivats de pacients de càncer de mama i de pàncrees ens ha permès establir diverses col·laboracions fructíferes amb altres grups del VHIO. Hem col·laborat en la caracterització de les anomalies genètiques que determinen la sensibilitat als inhibidors d’Akt (Gris-Oliver et al.) i en la definició de com els canvis epigenètics regulen l’accessibilitat de la cromatina en el càncer de mama triple negatiu (Cebrià-Costa et al.).

Paral·lelament, hem continuat investigant noves teràpies immunològiques mitjançant la generació de nous CAR (receptors antigènics quimèrics). Amb els coneixements acumulats durant el desenvolupament i la caracterització dels anticossos biespecífics, hem pogut desenvolupar eficientment els nostres CAR, que es dirigeixen contra la proteïna p95HER2, present només en alguns tumors mamaris i gàstrics i completament absent en els teixits normals. Cal destacar que aquest projecte ha estat finançat per l’Associació Espanyola contra el Càncer (AECC) per als propers cinc anys.

També cal esmentar el suport continu que rebem de la Fundació per a la Recerca del Càncer de Mama (BCRF), a la qual estem molt agraïts.
